Box Tops for Education

You can help Bozarth Elementary this summer!  You are probably familiar with the Box Tops for Education program which helps schools raise funds to supplement school programs.  What you may not know is that the website, boxtopsforeducation.com, helps to make collecting Box Tops a little more fun for your child.  Go the website, click on “Clip” and then on “Collection Projects,” and find a project for your child to do this summer to collect the Box Tops.  Put your child in charge of a scavenger hunt in your pantry to find the Box Tops and have them clean the pantry as a bonus for you.  If you do not have access to print the projects please feel free to stop by the temporary office to pick a sheet up.

Exciting Moves Forward

Furniture delivery started today at Bozarth!  It is so exciting to see the brand new furniture taken off the trucks, placed in classrooms, and assembled for the students this fall.  The black top has also begun being put down and that will continue through this week.  The landscaping continues to be put in and is looking excellent!  It is really a beautiful building and grounds.

The staff met on June 5 during a district-wide staff development day and adopted the following mission and vision statements based upon the community input from April 30th and staff input from April 24th.

Mission Statement:  Students, staff, and parents of Bozarth Elementary School will build a community which promotes high expectations for achievement, mutual respect, and leadership in a student-centered environment.

Vision Statement:  The Bozarth community will work together respecting the uniqueness of children in developing responsible learners and productive citizens.

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Executive Board was elected on June 3rd.  The board for the 2009-2010 school year will be:

President- Nancy Maupin

Vice President- Kim Lewis

Secretary- Cindy Harvey

Treasurer- Misti Webb

Fundraising Director- Dawn Gippetti

Special Events Director- Melissa Johnston

Hospitality Director- Kelly Villagrana

Communications and PR Director- Rachel Ellison

Membership Director/Legislative Representative- Stacey Budija

We thank these parents for taking on the responsibility of forming the Bozarth PTA and their assistance in making Bozarth phenomenal!

The progress of the building continues to move forward.  When the staff toured the building on June 5, it was exciting to see that the walls were painted, tile was in, wallpaper was up, and they were installing carpet.  As you can see from the street, they have also started working on the playground equipment and the landscaping.

Update on Progress

Last night we held our 2nd Bozarth Family Night to gain input on the vision and mission of the school from our parents.  Parents were asked to provide in put on two different questions, “What does your IDEAL school look like?” and “What are the characterisitics, in your opinion, of an EFFECTIVE school?”  Parents worked with the staff to answer these questions and some excellent ideas were shared.  Those ideas will be used as we work to write both the vision and mission statements for Bozarth Elementary.

The office staff had the opportunity to tour the progress of the school building this morning.  Things are really coming along.  There is floor tile in the restrooms, casework is being installed in the classrooms, greatrooms, and library, and the rooms have been painted.  They anticipate carpet being installed in the next couple of weeks. Very exciting!  We will keep you updated regarding the progress of the building.

Just a reminder that the next PTA General Board Meeting will be on Wednesday, May 27th at 6:30 p.m. in the Informational Center at Providence.  We hope you can make it!

Tomorrow is Family Night

Thursday, April 30th is Bozarth Family Night at Thompson Elementary School from 6:00-7:30 p.m.  Parents are invited to be introduced to the staff and to provide input on the mission and vision of the school.  Councilman Steve Ross will also be on hand to express his enthusiasm for the new school.  Mrs. Bozarth will also attend to share stories about her husband and to meet community members.

We continue to take Extended Day Kindergarten registrations through the end of the week, May 1, 2009.  We are at the minimum number of students required to offer the program as long as everyone who turned in enrollment paperwork also turns in their $100.00 deposit.  We would like to have the deposits by Friday, May 15, 2009.  The deposit may be turned in daily at the temporary office on the Thompson school campus.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday at P.I.E. Night (Parents in Education) or Bozarth Family Night at Thompson Elementary in the multi-purpose room.

Moving Forward

It is spring break!  We have really made a lot of progress over the past week.  We held our first Bozarth Family Night on Thursday, April 2, at Darnell ES, and had a tremendous turn out.  We greatly appreciate everyone who attended.  We were able to process many registrations for next year.  We continue to accept registration each day at our temporary office at Thompson ES.  Registration for students who currently attend both Darnell and Thompson Elementaries may return their registration forms to the school’s office for your convenience.  As of today, we have 15 Extended Day Kindergarten Registration forms.  We need a minimum of 22 to offer the Extended Day program.  If you know of anyone who is interested in Ext. Kindergarten please tell them that the deadline to register is May 1, 2009.

The staff has been hired and may be viewed on the Staff tab on the blog.  Although we do not accept requests for particular teachers for next year, we will give parents the opportunity to complete a learning profile during the second Bozarth Family Night on Thursday, April 30, at 6:00 p.m. at Thompson Elementary School.  If you can not make the family night and would still like to fill out a learning profile you may do so any day at the temporary office at Thompson.

The Second Bozarth Family Night will focus on gaining input from parents regarding the mission and vision of Bozarth Elementary School.  We hope that parents/guardians can attend to provide their input on what they would like to see at Bozarth Elementary next school year.

Have a happy and safe spring break!
